If you buy an Autoworld track I think your cars will work with the controllers no problem, if you get a new AFX track with the Mega G+ Cars, you'll need some older AFX Style controllers. The only current options are AFX Racing or Autoworld, both are interchangeable, I've not used the Autoworld, but the general consensus is the track is very close to the same quality as AFX, (probably made in the same factory in China), but the accessories, controllers and cars are different. Used track is cheap without cars, no one really wants it, but it'll usually need some cleanup/restoration work to get going.
